BRINGING HOME THE TROPHIES

Zapwater continued its winning ways at today’s Publicity Club of Chicago Golden Trumpet Awards. Zapwater won two Silver Trumpet trophies in recognition of its outstanding work in the “Marketing” Category.

The two “Trumpets” are the fourth and fifth major awards in public relations excellence that Zapwater has snagged in the past two years.

Zapwater was awarded a Silver Trumpet for its work on behalf of the Hotel Sax Chicago. The campaign “Introducing the Hotel Sax Chicago” is the second major award for Zapwater’s efforts on behalf of the hotel, making it one of the most recognized publicity campaigns for an independent hotel property in the country.

Zapwater also won a Silver Trumpet for “Lettuce Introduce you to Hub 51,” a publicity campaign introducing Chicago to Hub 51, the restaurant opened in 2008 in River North.

If we keep this up, we’re going to have to build a shelf for all of our trophies.

Equipped with a media relations agenda, cabana boy and 97 degree weather, we are finding that client relationships can extend far behind the office. GOODBYE JACK KEMP

It was with much sadness that I learned Jack Kemp had passed away. We all lost a great public servant. But for me, it was more. It was the passing of one of my heroes.

Someone once said to me, “Great leaders don’t adhere to a party platform, they build them.” That was Jack Kemp. He never wavered from his beliefs.

Through his political life, Kemp’s positions spanned the social spectrum: He opposed abortion and supported school prayer, yet appealed to liberals with his outreach toward minorities and compassion for the poor. He pushed for immigration reform to include a guest-worker program and status for the illegal immigrants already here.

Kemp came to symbolize a blending of conservative views with a big-tent vision for party membership. You will never find a more inclusive Republican. He was the original compassionate conservative.

I have spent much of my adult life working on political campaigns. However, my first political campaign will always be Jack Kemp for President. No one can take that away from me. In high school, I worked with a group of teenagers to get the then-Congressman from Buffalo on the ballot despite New York’s arcane electoral laws. I’ve since worked on thirty-five plus campaigns ranging from Smithtown Superintendent of the Highways to President of the United States.

When Kemp was nominated as Vice President in 1996, I jumped back into campaigns and ended up in Chicago. Anne Stanley, Jack Kemp’s Political Director once said to me, “the friends you make on a campaign last forever.” Through the years, the “Kemp” friends have always taken care of me. They helped me get my first campaign job out of college. When I needed a job a few years later, they found me work. When I started Zapwater, they provided me with some much needed early business.

The Kemp friends who have looked out for me throughout the years are a reflection on the man we worked for and were inspired by. He was one of my earliest heroes and I am proud to say I worked for Jack Kemp.

Farewell Jack. You will be missed.

NICKY’S WEEK

Everyone is feeling the affects of the recession but its still a good time
to give back a little and enjoy yourself at the same time. In the spirit of
this, I recommend everyone go to RA Sushi between May 24-30 for a little
sushi, sake & good times!

RA Sushi will host its fifth annual “Nicky’s Week” fundraiser May 24 to 30,
to benefit the internationally renowned St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital. All three Chicagoland RA locations (Gold Coast, Glenview and
Lombard) will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of Edamame,
Tootsy Maki, Shrimp Shumai, FIJI, Red Bull, The Republic of Tea, and select
cocktails, to St. Jude.

Nicky’s Week was developed in memory of longtime St. Jude patient Nicholas”
Nicky” Mailliard
, of Scottsdale, who lost a long battle with brain cancer
in February 2005 at the young age of 13. A nephew of one of RA’s founders,
Nicky held a special place in the hearts of RA associates throughout the
organization. RA initiated the fundraiser in honor of Nicky as a way to
further promote the exceptional attention and support provided at no cost to
families of children receiving care at St. Jude.

All donations from the weeklong effort will help pay for St. Jude’s
development of treatment and cures for diseases such as brain tumors,
leukemia, sickle cell disease, and other life-threatening illnesses in
children.

On Thursday, April 30th Cheeky Chicago, Bar DeVille, Vavoom Pinups and St. Germain teamed up to bring Chicago ladies the first ever Cheeky’s Ladies Night at nightlife hotspot, Bar DeVille.

Inspired by Bar DeVille’s old time décor, attendees will had the opportunity to have vintage photos taken, while they sipped St. Germain cocktails and enjoyed on small bites provided by RA Sushi. Make up artists and hair stylists transformed guests’ looks to that of vintage pinup girls before they hopped in front of the cameras from Vavoom Pinups, Chicago’s premiere pinup and boudoir photography studio.

And, ladies didn’t leave without one of Cheeky’s famous swag bags, stuffed with products and goodies!
